What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Currently, I fully depend on the transfers for my household's upkeep. I do not have an alternative source of income thus the transfers have greatly been helping me to buy food for the family. However, I recently developed a goal of saving a small portion of my transfers to enroll in a beauty therapy course. I have some skills in making hair, but I would wish to build on the same skills. With such skills, I shall be able to run my salon and succeed in raising extra income. I had begun to do the same course two years ago but I never completed it because I never had an adequate fee. The skills are key because, with them, I shall be able to work till I die without any worry about retirement.

In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give directly has been doing very well and it still is through the monthly cash donations. I do not see any room for improvement.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have two children, one of whom is in school. She had a school fee arrears of ksh1130. I managed to reduce the bill by ksh500. For the remaining balance, I am planning to use my next transfer to clear the bill. As for my first and second transfer, I used ksh1000 to purchase 4chicken, ksh1400 on the food budget, ksh200 to buy soap, and the remaining ksh1600, which I used on house renovations. Where I bought a bag of cement at ksh600 and blocks at ksh1000. This has improved my life since farming hasn't worked out well for me this season due to the droughts that struck in my area.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The day I received the funds I was actually coming from hospital from receiving my last injection since I was not feeling quite well and the message arrived around ten in the morning. I was so happy because I had actually just used my last penny of what I had in the hospital and did not know where else I would have got money from.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
For me it would the fact that I was able to have the capacity to start my own small business which has been a dream of mine for quite sometime since I am a stay home mother and really yearned to have something going on my own so that I could assist my husband in catering for some of the bills.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
For the longest time now I have wanted and craved to start my own business and so after getting enrolled with this program I took it as an opportunity to do and so when I received the first transfers I immediately decided that I should start poultry farming since they would fit in well with the funds that I received. I decided to buy four hens which were sold told me at KES 1,200 and I was done with money I had but plan on buying and rearing more after I receive the second transfer and after they grow and produce I have them for both domestic and commercial use.
