How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it would have been if I could have never received transfer from GiveDirectly. I don't think I could have built a house for my mother-in-law. I have done several projects including buying a bull and paying school fees for my child. I used to feel bad seeing my mother in law sleeping around because her house collapsed and could not build another one or repair the old one because she was old and could not afford to employ people to put the structure up. She was old and needed a decent place to call home. I feel so happy when I see her rest in her own place in the evening. Thanks to GiveDirectly for enabling me to do all these. The best part of it is seeing my child going to school like other children after paying the school fee. I feel at peace in my heart and I am more ambitions of meeting my other personal goals.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly's idea of giving out unconditional transfers was the best practice. They have made our lives better and gave us a new meaning of life. I did not know that my life would change this much in such a short period of time. I managed to buy a bull, build a house for my mother in law and also paid school fees for my child. I don't think I would have managed to do all these at ago considering the unreliable source of income. My life has changed greatly and I thank Give Directly for this. The unconditional transfer has also helped my neighbors to meet their goals too and we only thank the organization more.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer on building my mother-in-law a house. She used to sleep anywhere darkness found her, whether it was at a neighbor's place or the relative's place. She was not stable. I used to feel bad about this and promised my self to do something about it. Once I got the means I constructed a semi-permanent house for her and I am glad that I impacted her life. Today she knows where to go at night. Her husband died and the house that had been built by the husband collapsed, her children were not able to build her a house due to lack of money. I am glad I also managed to pay school fees for my child who is in high school. Apart from that, I also bought a bull which will help me in future.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in your daily life is the fact that initially we nnever had any livvestock grazing on our field but now we have six goats which are our own. we thank God for the drastic change in our family.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was all unbelievable when I received the message from GiveDirectly. this was a turn of events since from the first day when I was enrolled I never believed that the promises we were being given were true. Thank you GiveDirectly for delivering on your promises. my husband and I celebrated the receipts though in secret since everyone was silent to a point where we thought that we were the only household which had received the transfer. we came to learn later that every other person in the village had received when we saw the clitters of their aluminum roofs
What did you spend your first transfer on?
My mother in law has been living in a house with old thatches. The roof has been leaking and we saw it a good idea to use part of our transfers in purchasing iron 20 iron sheets. we have constructed her a good house with better space than the old one and decided to destroy the older one. initially, we had a plan to spend part of the transfer in starting a livestock farming and on receiving we decided to purchase 6 goats which are now grazing on our fields. we have considered saving the remaining 10000 KES since we have our first born son joining form one this January. we are really happy that all we thought of planning and putting in action have come to pass and we really thank God for enabling GiveDirectly to stretch to our region.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to pay school fees for my daughter who is supposed to join secondary school next year. I will also buy two cows and five goats for rearing.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when my children and I are preparing the evening meal. They like narrating very funny stories that make me laugh a lot.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I have faced in life is nearly losing my youngest daughter to an abrupt illness that could not be diagnosed by doctors.Seeing her helpless body going through convulsions and form oozing out of her mouth yet there was nothing that I could do to help her, was by far the most horrible moments that I have gone through as a mother.
