How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has tremendously improved in that, I invested more in Agricultural inputs ( an ox and laborers) to work on my farm than ever before. When I harvest, I hope to sell my rice and build a commercial house which will generate income for family use. Previously, I used to offer casual labor in other peoples' farm land in order to have my own ploughed.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
According to me, GiveDirectly has done well by giving me the unconditional cash transfer that I used for developing myself. There is nothing wrong that they have.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used my second transfer to buy a tree that I'm going to use for making timber and for weeding my five acres of lands. The other portion of the transfer was spent by the spouse.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that, I am very happy because I have owned two bulls that will enable early crop planting. I spend much of my time in a day taking care of my oxen which makes me busy and my time spent in a productive manner.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I heard the message at about 4:35 am, I checked the phone and realized that the message was indicating that money had been sent from GiveDirectly. I shared with my wife and because it was almost morning, we started planning but gave it some time for the prices to normalize. This is because usually when GiveDircetly's recipients receive money, prices go up which makes items expensive.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent UGX 1510000 for buying two oxen in order to support in opening land when rains begin. In our culture, we use oxen for ploughing instead of hiring tractors that are very expensive. I bought a mattress worth UGX 135000 in order to improve on our living conditions. The balance of UGX 55000, I spent it on feeding my household.
