Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so much happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I was alone at home in an early morning and I had just woken up. My children were still asleep and I did not bother to wake them up to share the good news. I later on that day withdrew the money and made good use of it. I feel so much grateful to GiveDirectly for the support offered.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference is that I am now a more happy person than I have ever been. Having paid school fees for my children in school for the whole term will give me peace of mind. I plan to use the second transfer to buy a dairy cow since I currently do not have one.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 20000 to pay school fees for my son who is in secondary school fees. I would have had to rely on farming which sometimes is badly affected by prevailing weather conditions. I used another KES 10000 to buy food for family and another KES 10000 to facilitate rite of passage who was undergoing initiation. I am a mother of three and I entirely rely on farming to earn a living. I am also a single mother and everything in my family looks up to me.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means owning a dairy cow. I used to depend on subsistence farming as my source of income, but due to high cost of inputs like fertilizer and planting seeds I am considering changing to dairy farming. Last year, I used KES 8,000 as farm inputs only to yield 3 sacks that I sold at KES 7,500. I am planning to spend KES 30,000 to purchase a dairy cow. The current price is favourable that is KES 30 per litre this could be enough to educate my 3 children. The rest I will use in paying school fees for them.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Having good health is what has given me joy in the last six months. I get the motivation and ample time to work harder to raise basic needs for my family like food and quality education for my children.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge I am facing currently is lack of school fees for my son in secondary school. I am single parent relying on subsistence farming to raise a family of four. Due to unpredicted weather conditions and high cost of inputs farming has been unreliable. This has led to my child missing class frequently due to school fees arrears thus affecting performance.
