What does receiving this money mean to you?
The money will mean starting up a family tailoring business. In total we are 5 in our family that includes, myself, my husband and 3 children. We all depended on my husband who was working in Salima district at a tailoring shop. At the end of the month he was able to send us K15000.00 ($14) which took us the whole month. Four months ago, the tailoring went bankrupt and the owner closed the business due to covid 19 restrictions. That forced my husband to come back home. Ever since he has returned, he has not find luck to be reemployed. Life has been so difficult for the family. At the moment we depend much on Piece works such as washing clothes, working on construction site, working on maize fields just to mention a few. There are somedays or weeks we spend without finding work and that will make us to live without food. The cash gift will help us to buy tailoring machines and other materials for us to start up our own tailoring shop. We are planning that we will be making a minimum of K2000.00 ($1.78) per day. I am so greatful for the program. It will help us to meet our goals.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am very much Happy in the evening because is the time I spend with my family. It is also time I have a chance to know and learn what my children learned at school.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I ha e faced is hunger. My family did not harvest enough food that will take us for the entire year and this has made our life difficult. We so much depends much on government subsidized fertilizer program. Last year, we did not manage to be part of the program. This made us not to apply enough fertilizer to our crops resulting to low harvest.
