Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life has changed because through this aid, I have managed to off set my debts. I'm now stress free as opposed to the past when I was over pressurised by people I owed. At times I thought of selling of the little property since the money I earned from a Local Government primary school was not enough to meet my family needs as well as paying off debts. I ended up prioritise paying fees first visa vie clearing debts. In addition, I have bought building materials for my permanent house which project will start in December. I'm still sleeping in a leaking thatched hut.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was very early in the morning when I heard my phone vibrate. On checking, it was a message of unconditional cash transfer from GiveDirectly. At that moment, I felt very happy because I was sure of off setting the debts which were burdening me and deposit for building material since my hut in the village leaks.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I bought smart phone worth UGX 230,000, bought building materials ( 20 bags of cement and iron sheets) worth UGX 500,00, off set a debt of UGX 300,000. paid school fees for my brother who is at secondary level worth UGX 200,000, gift worth UGX 100,000, repair my motorbike worth UGX 110,000, bought food worth UGX 100,000, saved UGX 150,000 and spent on transport worth UGX 17,000.
