How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is better than before because I have solar for lighting, my utensils protected in cupboard. In addition, I have no more stress due to school fees demand. Before, I used kerosene for lighting increasing the risk of burning property, rats damaging my utensils, and the stress of looking for money to clear school fees demanded.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done well giving money that has uplifted people's livelihood by acquiring new houses, livestock, solar panels, and to take children to school. In addition, staff advise the people how to make the best use of the transfers since it's a one time opportunity. There's nothing it hasn't done well in my opinion.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
My second transfer was spent to pay school fees, bought household items like cupboard, clothings. I renovated my house, paid hospital bills and rest went on feeding.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My daily life is much peaceful because I feel happy that I was able to pay my children's school fees. I acquired a solar power system for lighting at home. In the past, we had to sell our food crops so as to pay my children's school fees. It was a huge burden to us and this could not allow us sleep peacefully. We were desperate for a miracle and thank God, GiveDirectly came to our rescue.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I woke up at 02:00am and saw a mobile money message. I screamed at the top of my voice and woke up my husband. We were very happy that night because we had alot of responsibilities that required alot of money.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first cash transfer to purchase a solar and battery worth UGX 480000 and a wiring rod worth UGX 220000. I bought a mattress worth UGX 100000. I paid school fees worth UGX 800000. The balance was spent on buying food for the family.

What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest moment in my life is in the evening after a hard days work. I am a teacher and walk for some disatance in order to deliver a service. When I come back, I will have time to have enough rest until morning when the struggle begins.
