How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it would have been had I not received the transfer in that I have been able to buy a piece of land. I sold the cows that I bought using the transfers at a higher price and used the money to buy a piece of land and I have been able to plant some maize. From the remaining amount, I bought a second hand motorcycle after topping up some amount.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly did well by not discriminating on anyone and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent some amount from my second transfer to buy a dairy cow as a way of saving this money. When they reproduce and increase in number, I will sell some and use the money to buy a piece of land since the one we own is small and one cannot practice crop farming. Also, I spent some amount to buy some decent clothes and beddings for my children. I used the remaining amount to buy food to last us for some time.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
It had always been my dream to own a dairy cow but I was not able to achieve this before due to lack of enough resources. GiveDirectly transfer has allowed me to achieve my heart's desire and this is a major step I have made in my life. When it reproduces, I will be able to produce milk for both household consumption and sale to my neighbors to earn an income.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 6 a.m. after I had woken up when I realized that GiveDirectly had sent me my first transfer. I became so happy and I started singing joyously. I knew that the money would uplift my status in my community.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfer, I used it to buy a dairy cow. This had been my dream but could not have realized it due to limited resources. This will enable me to save the money I would otherwise use in buying milk. I will also be selling milk to my neighbors when it reproduces. Also, I bought some decent clothes and shoes for my family. My children's school uniforms and shoes were torn and unpresentable. Due to this, I bought each one of them a pair to replace them. I used the remaining amount to buy a goat for rearing.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always wanted to start a small kiosk in my compound. This is because we have to walk for about 2 (two) Kilometers so that we can get to our shopping center. I also dont have a cow. Receiving this money therefore is a big boost to me because I will be able to accomplish my plans.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I listen to my small radio as I relax after working in the farm since morning.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am a farmer living in an arid area. This means that we dont have favorable weather conditions for farming. Therefore, my greatest challenge is finding a constant source of income so that I can cater for the needs of my family.
