Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is not much as at now but I look forward to having a huge difference once I start harvesting the sugarcane I plan to plant now. Previously, I had only one farm but through the money I got from Give Directly, I was able to lease two more farms and even hire a tractor to plough the farms. I do have more farms compared the only one I had before My farming is going to grow to a larger scale meaning more income for my family when I harvest. This also will require my full-time attention so I will tone down on strenuous casual work as a mode of provision for my family.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received this transfer I felt so happy and overwhelmed. All the plans I had underway started falling into place. I went straight ahead to look around for farms to lease.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I have always aspired to do large scale farming and because I had only one farm, I did not see this happening. With this transfer, I leased two more farms to expand my farming to a larger scale. Part of this transfer was also used to hire a tractor to plough these two pieces of land as I am getting ready to plant sugarcane which I am looking forward to. I have always toiled so hard to provide for my family i.e. paying school fees for my children, buying food for their consumption and even buying clothes by doing strenuous casual work. Now I look forward to work in my farms and when I get to harvest the sugarcane, I will not rely on casual work to get money to cater for my family needs but farming.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My ambition has been to become a large scale farmer. I plan to spend my transfer on hiring land, buying farm inputs and paying labour for cultivation.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I have completed my day's work. My day is always busy, working on my Shamba, looking after my children and doing compound cleaning.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of money to invest in farming. As a casual worker I do not have enough money to invest in sugar cane farming which is the major economic activity here that gives good returns. This will increase my earnings and improve my living standards.
