How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After renovating my house alongside other projects and making it good enough with the first and the second transfer, I feel satisfied, thankful, and up to monitor the running projects that I established with both the transfers. I don't have any new project at the moment as I am still trying to furnish the interior parts of my house. Currently, I am still painting and following on the payment I made for the new piece of furniture that will soon come to use once the carpenter I hired starts the carpentry work.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
After the first and the second transfer we received, I feel that GiveDirectly did their best to see us improve our living standards. Giving us the aid in monetary form was the best decision since we got the opportunity to spend on what we needed the most in our household. I can't complain at all even after the last transfer, and based on what I have been hearing from other villages, everyone is happy and wishing GiveDirectly the best as they look forward to supporting other people who are also in need.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After receiving the second transfer, I was glad to finally obtain two heifers at KES2500. This was the initial plan I had with the first transfer but decided to delay it as there were other needs I wanted to sort first before investing in livestock. Alongside the purchase of the two heifers, I had a house to renovate where I purchased frames to replace the weak ones on the roof. I was glad that the KES13000 I had initially allocated from the second transfer was enough. At the moment, we had been buying every foodstuff in the household but this time had to obtain two sacks of maize each at KES3600, and finally obtained clothing both for all the members of my household and also a pair for me.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at the farm when I saw my neighbours running up and down, others were shouting at the top of their voices in celebrations, I immediately reached out for my phone to confirm if the transfer was here already, I was overwhelmed and happy when I saw the Mpesa alert, I never bothered to finish what I was doing, rather I called my wife and shared the Good News with her.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life now is that, I was able to complete my house with the transfer money that I had received, It came as a very big relief, am happy to have accomplished this wonderful house courtesy of the transfer, I no longer worry on selling any of my properties to complete the main house. I am grateful for the support I received which has changed my living standards, My confidence is back.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I had started building a house a long time ago but I was stuck on the way due to financial constraints, when I received my transfer, I was relieved because I knew that with the transfer I was certain that I would be able to complete my house, I therefore, bought Iron sheets worth $500, am happy that I will be able to complete my dream house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
In April,we had some little dividends from a savings group. With this,we decided to build a two-rooomed brick-walled house so that the house we currently live in can be left as a sleeping place for my sons.We however underestimated the entire cost of construction and have since been stuck halfway. This program from GiveDirectly has come at a time when I was wondering how I will bring this house even close to completion.I am now quite relieved because I have hope that we will receive this transfer and therefore I will use the entire transfer to buy materials and labour to complete it.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Casual labour is quite tiring.Since I do not have any other source of income,am forced to engage in these activities in order to feed my family. On most days,I work till late in the afternoon when I return home to take a rest. This moment of rest is usually the happiest part of my day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We have not had a maize harvest for the past six years. This being our staple food and what children are brought up being fed on,it means that we have to constantly buy maize to feed the family. It is always a loss year after year considering the cost of seeds and other input. This also means that we are forced into casual labour so that we always have money to buy this commodity.Being a casual labourer who only depends on a daily wage of Sh 200,sometimes the family is forced to forego some other needs so that we can at least have food for the children. This is the biggest hardship I have faced
