How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
There was a dairy cow breed that I had always wished to purchase. I used all the first transfers on it and I had planned on spending the second transfer to clear the pending balance. I am so happy because currently I have the best breed and this enables me to get enough milk for my family and even sell the surplus to earn an income to meet other household basic needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor people in the community to build better houses, buy dairy cows, and pay school fees for their children. I do not find anything that GiveDioectly does not do well everything that was done from the training to receiving the money was perfectly done.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spend KES 35,000 to pay for the debt that I had. I used all the first transfers to purchase a dairy cow for KES 90,000. I had the pending balance of KES 35,000 to be cleared. I am so happy because I was able to pay this using the second transfer. I am a dairy farmer and I had booked one of the best breeds from my neighbor. I had always wanted to own that breed for higher milk production. I will be able to get enough milk for my family and also for sales to earn an income. I spent KES 10,000 on paying school fees for my children in the academy. They are currently studying well without being sent home like before. I expect to get better performance this year. The rest of the money I used to buy food and other household items. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDiretly has changed our living standards.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at work when I received a call from my neighbour inquiring if I had received money from GiveDirectly, upon checking my phone I saw a Mpesa notification showing that I had received a sum of KES 55,000 from GiveDirectly, I was so happy because I knew that I would be able to realize my dream of expanding my dairy cow project, it was the happiest day of my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I lack words to express the immense joy in my heart, My life is different now since I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly, in that I was able to buy the finest dairy cow in the market, at the same time I stocked enough foodstuffs for my family, I am happy that I did not take a loan which I would have been forced to pay it back with interest, I am grateful for the support that lifted our lives amazingly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I was told that I would receive the unconditional transfer, I thought of putting down a ready plan so that I would be able to spend my money efficiently and effectively, therefore when I received my transfer I followed the script that I had for easy planning, therefore, I used KES 35,000 in buying a dairy cow so that I would expand the dairy cow project and lastly, I bought foodstuffs with the remaining part of the transfer, I am so happy that I was able to realize my goals within a short period, I was unable to achieve all this before due to financial constraints. I am grateful for the support that brought hope for a better tomorrow.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have just started my dream project of dairy farming by acquiring 3 heifers. Dairy farming is a profitable business in our area owing to the presence of a ready market and fair price (KES 40 per liter) for milk. As such, I will use the transfer on completing the project by paying off about KES 30000 that I still owe the person who got me the heifers. Also, I will use some of the money on planting more grasses (for feeds), establishing a parlor, and installing a water system. Indeed, God's timing is the best since GiveDirectly's aid has come when we direly need it.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Our newly acquired cow calved down last month. This has boosted our milk yields from 5 to 13 liters. As a result, our income from the sale of milk has increased from KES 120 to KES 400 daily. We are using the income to meet our basic needs and demands. This has brought happiness to our family since we would use the income to meet some of our needs and demands.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge we are experiencing as a family is the repayment of a loan that I acquired from a local financial firm. I am a primary school teacher (earning between KES 20000 and KES 30000 monthly). Currently, we are struggling to meet our needs and demands because more than half of my salary is deducted to repay the loan. Precisely, food inadequacy in our household and lack of school fees for my two school-going children are drawing pressure on me because I am the main breadwinner.
