How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am planning to buy a piece of land to build my house, hence home. The one we currently live in is small and family land. I would like to get my own which will be enough for my family
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What you have done best is to give us the two transfers to improve our lives. Indeed, this has changed our lives to the fullest being that before we had nothing. Due to these transfers, I managed to finish building my house by fixing the three doors and roof, I also bought two goats and treated my mother up to the moment she died. I do not have any complaints but I do thank GiveDirectly and request additional transfers if possible.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the first transfer of kes. 55000 in finishing building my house by buying three doors, six pieces of iron sheets, paying a constructor to fix the doors and roof, buying food, and two goats who have currently managed to bear and give birth to two kids. I spent the second transfer treating my mother who had a liver problem. She used to cough and had difficulty breathing. Her liver had swollen and she had to undergo an operation. By bad luck, she died and the same transfers helped in settling her burial expenses like buying a coffin. I am not able to bear a child yet due to the complications I have in my stomach. I am a maize farmer and my husband went to seek a job in Gikambala. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for putting a smile on my face.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 4:35 pm I was at the farm cultivating when I heard a message notification on my phone. My helper was around and I informed her to check it for me. She said that it was a message confirming that I have been sent the money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy because I have never received such an amount t of money. I planned on how to spend the money and went to withdraw the following day.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
purchasing two goats is the biggest difference in my daily life. This was my main concern and I have always wanted to start this post-rearing project. I depend on small-scale farming and the harvest that I get is only for consumption. I had no extra money to start this project. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I felt so happy because I was in a position to buy the goats. When They reproduce in the future I will sell them and purchase a plot. This is my next goat and I wish to fulfill this. I am so grateful for the support because were it not GiveDiretly all this could have taken quite some time to do it.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 20,000 0n completing the constriction of the house that I had started building. I spent KES 10,00 on purchasing two goats. This is the best investment since goats reproduce faster. I have always watched to start this project but I did not have the money. I spent KES 4,000 on purchasing sofa set seats and tables. I gave KES 3,000 to my spouse for medication. The remaining amount of money I spent on food and other household items.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We will use our money to finish our structure which we had paused due to inadequacy of funds. It requires six iron sheets and three doors for its completion. These materials plus labor will cost around 25000 KES. I will also purchase four plastic chairs at 600 KES and a table for 1500. The remaining amount will go on purchasing a piece of land because we are living in a family land where there are wrangles pertaining ownership. I can acquire at plot at around 60,000 KES.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I visited my husband in January this year. We had never met for quite some time. I was happy for the union. Wish we could be seeing each other quite often but it's not possible at the moment for he has to fend for me.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial instability is our challenge at the moment. My husband earns as little as 200 KES in a day from tapping palm wine. ( He was hired by those people who own palm trees). This is a result of the ongoing drought condition which has led to reduced yields as well as premature plants death. These earnings are way too little to support us on food alone.
