How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has greatly changed for the better. I now sleep peacefully not worrying about my son like I used to do before we received the transfers. Building a house for my son had given me sleepless nights for a long time. I had a lot of worries about his safety whenever he was going to find sleep in a neighbors house. At one time, I felt I had failed as a parent in providing the basic things that a parent should provide for their children. With GiveDirectly transfers, I have been able to construct a house for my son and he now stays at home with us. This has restored my pride as a parent and has made my son happy too.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in their work. They are much organized and fair when selecting individuals to receive transfers. We trust them because they deliver what they promise. On the other hand, I do not feel there is anything that GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer to purchase building materials to complete my son's house. He has been sleeping over a neighbor's house which is quite far from our home. In our area, there are wild animals thus making it dangerous to walk around in the night. I also purchased maize using some part of the transfer. The past few years our maize production has not been doing well because there was an outbreak of a certain disease and this affected the plantation so much that we could hardly harvest anything.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money is an exciting opportunity,it means a brighter future for my children sjnce I am going to spend most of the transfers on their education.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. The joy of seeing a new day makes it the best part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is the demise of my life in 2000 after suffering from heart attack. It was one of the hardest moments in my life:coming to terms with her demise, the loneliness and the family burden that was all on me.I got so disturbed that I had to quit my job and since then the hustle has been real the worst part being relying on farm produce from my not so arable land.
