What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a teacher by professional awaiting government placement. Upon receiving my transfer, I saw it as an opportunity for me to clear the fees arrears that were left pending in school. I was unable to collect my academic certificate since I never had money to clear the arrears. Thus I used KES 28000. I then used KES 10,000 in buying a dairy cow and Lastly I used the remaining amount on foodstuffs and clothes. I am so grateful to have achieved so much in a short time.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has lifted and empowered the lives of my people amazingly. The economic status is on a higher level compared to before. In my opinion, everything was done professionally. However, the organisation should have enrolled everyone above the age of 18 so long as they consent.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is for me to be able to enrol on an upgrading course in teaching. I plan to achieve this dream by selling at least one of the cows when the right time comes. I am so grateful for the funds that opened our eyes to strive for more.

What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After receiving my first transfer,I purchased three heifers worth Ksh.44,000.I chose to invest on the heifers so that I can sell to join college since I am a primary school teacher and I have an upcoming upgrading program to boost my teaching skills.I also spent Kshs 2,000 in settling a debt that I had. With the remaining amount,I spent on buying clothing and food stuff.I am so grateful to Givedirectly for the support and looking forward to receiving second transfer so that I can execute the remaining plans.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the purchase of the three heifers. This is a great investment since I can sell and sort my needs in the future.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was early morning when I received a call from a friend asking whether I received money from Give directly. Upon checking, I confirmed the good news and we all catered to celebrate the good news.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge is financial constraints. I would have loved to get the priority of attending upgrading training to a Competence-based curriculum but due to lack of money, I have to postpone. I teach in a private school and my monthly pay is KES 9000 but it is insufficient to meet all my needs including furthering my studies.
What is the happiest part of your day?
When I graduated last year December I got employed in the nearby private school. With the little money I earn, I have managed to buy three sheep. This has brought joy and happiness into my life since I look at them as my source of income in the future as I purpose to further my studies.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a teacher by profession. As teachers, we are supposed to upgrade our studies to suit a competency-based curriculum. I graduated last in the year 2020 December and I have not saved enough money for the training. So when I get this money I will buy three calves. This will be my investment so that when they have grown up I will sell them to facilitate my upgrading training. I will spend like KES 45000 to purchase them. I know it might take time for them to grow but am sure when I sell them once they mature they will clear all the academic fees.
