What did you spend your third transfer on?
When I received my third transfer, the first thing I did was to clear school fees arrears for my 2 children in a secondary school to enable them sit for their examination. Before I received the money, I had a lot of uncertainties about their education and therefore thanks to Give Directly for giving me such a great confidence. Lastly, I used the rest of the money for plastering my main house with sand and cement. I wanted to live in a cleaner environment.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, we live in a better environment, a good house we call home. And again, I have no debts anymore since I have cleared all the school fees arrears for my children and therefore it is now their turn to achieve the best and my turn to enjoy a peaceful state of mind. This is how my life is different than it would have been if I never received transfers.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my own opinion, what Give Directly did well is giving us unconditional money but the fact that some neighboring villages never received this help is something that we still fail to understand.

What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
We are planning to buy sand, cement, timber, round poles, nails and iron roofing sheets which we will use to build a better house for my family. If there are any funds remaining we plan to pay school fees for our sons who are in secondary schools.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
My proudest achievement is having toiled in my farm for very many years in order to ensure that I always get a bountiful harvest of maize and sweet potatoes. These harvests are very important because after selling the produce I have been able to educate my children.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I face right now is lack of enough money to buy farm inputs like seeds, fertiliser and a ploughing machine. This often means that our method of farming is inefficient and at times results in poor harvests.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning especially if I wake up feeling fine and without any illness. This means that I can go about my daily chores and even get some food for my family.
