How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Even though I was not able to construct a permanent house, I am grateful that I finally made it to put up a semi-permanent one - way too better than the old kitchen I had. It is spacious enough for my family of five, with at least a room for my children, unlike the old one which had no privacy at all. This would have been so hard for me if I had never received the transfer since saving towards a whole construction work had been so challenging to me.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Choosing our village out of the many by GiveDirectly gave everyone in our village nothing but hope. I can't tell how this was done but I have been thankful for the great work that has been happening in the neighborhood. We were given the freedom to spend the money on anything we saw fit since everyone's needs always vary. From the first point of interaction in the initial meeting with the officers to the last transfer I received, I have never seen anything wrong with the whole project, and how it was carried out. All gratitude goes to the officers who were so friendly and always ready to help especially to the elderly who would have been way vulnerable to the theft.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Having started the construction of a new house with part of the first transfer, I spent part of the second on completion of the floors, installation of a new piece of furniture, and other interior decors. I am glad that we finally moved in after such a long time in the old kitchen that had been multipurpose as we also used it as a living, and a bedroom despite its tiny space. I also saved part of the amount that I used on obtaining a heifer worth 23000KES and the remaining on household foodstuff. I am still grateful for both the transfers I received as a lot really changed in my life.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my first transfers to my mobile money account, I shared the good news with my spouse and we were happy together. This is because we had plans to improve our lives with these transfers.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I am a teacher by profession but so far, I haven't gotten employment. I usually survive with casual jobs to provide for my family. I had no plans to build a better house anytime soon due to menial income. After receiving the transfers, I implemented my dream of having a good house for my family. I am glad that we have a better house now as a result of GiveDirectly's support.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My first transfers which GiveDirectly sent to me, I had prioritize on building a house. I spent KES 40000 on purchasing materials for constructing a timber wall house with ironsheets roof. I choose to build a semi permanent house so that we would have a comfortable house to live in. I then spent KES 9000 on clothings for my family members. The remaining amount, I spent KES 3000 on buying foodstuffs and another KES 3000 on purchasing farm inputs for planting so that we would have food in the near future.
