How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have acquired cows that I intend to pay as dowry to my in-laws to be. Prior to receiving these transfers, I didn't have a cow of my own yet at my age, I should have at least had some livestock before parents come in to support me marry. I am currently sleeping in grass thatched hut that requires renovation annually. However, I am in the process of constructing an iron roofed house(at foundation). when my new house is complete, I will be relieved from renovating my hut annual.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well to give me cash that I spent for buying cows which I intend to pay as dowry to my in-laws to be. GiveDirectly has only done well to me.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my transfer to purchase 2 trips of bricks, a trip of sand and paid labour for digging the foundation. I have not yet spent UGX 1,282,000 but I am planning to spend it to buy iron sheets, timber, nails, cement and pay construction labour.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life has improved because I have acquired cows which will enable me to pay bride price for my wife in future and probably for milk consumption. Secondly, I also sleep well and I can afford to change clothing. Prior to this transfer, I never had livestock and I slept on a mat because I had no money.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received money, I felt happy because I got money for buying cows and household goods like a mattress which I never had.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I bought Livestock ( 2 cows) worth UGX 1,030,000, clothing/household goods ( a mattress, bed, 1 pair of bed sheets) worth UGX 341,000. There is a balance of 300,000 which I'm planning to spend on Livestock ( calf or goats).

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I feel I am mature now to stay with a woman who will help me in some work such as cooking, doing laundry and other chores. So, when I get this money, I will buy cows that I will use as dowry to marry a woman and also use part of the money to start a business of selling second hand clothes. This business will sustain me and as it grows, it will also help me generate more income to take care of my family in future.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning whenever I wake up healthy and alive. I see this as an opporrunity for me to go out and look for what to do to get money.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is lack of money and resources to help me get a wife.
