How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
With the big construction that I had been working on in the past few months, I currently don't have a new goal but working hard to complete the furnishing of the new structure. Alongside this project, I have also been working on the construction of rental houses that I am planning to resume soon after the completion of the current construction.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, the improved standard of living in the construction, livestock, and also foodstuff that is now seen in our village is greatly attributed to the good pieces of advice and the freedom we got from GiveDirectly to choose how best we could spend our transfers. Even though many are happy with the support we received, I still feel that some people who were never enrolled have different feelings. It is my wish that GiveDirectly would still make a visit and give them a second chance that would enable them to catch up with the other villages. Single mothers staying with their parents should have been supported as well since they have children depending on them when they have nothing at all to offer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Even though I had started the construction of my new house with the first transfer, the magnitude of banking on it with the second transfer was still high. With approximately KES 40000, I was able to fix the metallic windows and doors, applied new paints on the interior and the exterior walls, and also brought in a new piece of furniture. I am happy that the house has a great outlook, especially with the comfortable seats that I purchased. I had another house but was a bit old and had to construct a semi-permanent one for my family of ten. With KES10000 out of the remaining amount, I boosted my wife's grocery and cereals business which is now doing so well. She was happy to add more stock and increase the variety of her sales which made her customers satisfied as well. I used the remaining amount on buying household goods and settling some debts in the nearby shop.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means having a descent housing for me. I am a farmer and usually depend on dairy farming and agriculture. My main activity here is keeping dairy. In a month I usually get approximately KES. 9,000. In some occasions where we receive adequate rainfall I have bananas which I can sell and get upto KES.20,000.I have been doing all this for some years now but used the cash to pay for school fees. I recently started to build a new house and this Give directly transfers is a greater boost to me.I plan to spend the entire transfers to purchase iron sheets.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am a farmer and i planted tissue cultured bananas variety. In the past 4 months I was able to harvest and sell a bunch of bananas from my farm. Out of this I got an income of KES.65,000. I felt very impressive for this project and planning to expand this in order to increase the income. This enabled me to continue with the construction project.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
One of the challenges that i currently face i lack of a stable income. The change of climate has negatively impacted my dairy project. There is scarcity for feeds since we are currently facing harsh climatic conditions. This situation has affected my income and now i am unable to meet my daily basic needs.
