How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
With the current projects which I have started, I have witnessed a lot of differences in my life. School fees clearance has been a motivating factor and I believe that once I manage to put up a house in my own home I believe my life will definitely change and I will leave a peaceful life as compared to now.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Giving us a lump sum amount of money by GiveDirectly is the best thing to have happened to everyone in our village. It really dawned on us and that pushed us to work harder and see that we accomplish all we had promised the officers who enrolled us.
We are thankful and we all believe that GiveDirectly did a very good job in everything they did. We are praying that May God help GiveDirectly over other projects they are yet to implement.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
Upon receiving the second transfer, I spent a large portion of it in settling school fees for my four children who were in dire need of that money then. I spent the remaining 18900 KES on buying 30 iron sheets in preparation to construct a new house once we accumulated enough construction materials.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I believe education is the key in life, therefore, I prioritize my children's education so that they will have a better future. I have four children one in college and the others in various secondary schools and raising their fees has not been easy. I majorly collect firewood for sale to earn a living. Raising my children's fee together with meeting family daily needs had been strenuous to me. I had to go far and struggle a lot to get enough firewood to sell. Ever since I received my transfers, my health has improved. This is because I no longer overwork myself looking for money to use in paying my children's school fees. Clearing this year's school fees using my transfers has given me humble time to look for their next year's school fees. So far, I have been able to save some money which I will use in paying school fees next year.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received a message alert on my phone at night as I was still asleep. When I read and realized that GiveDirectly had sent me the money, I became so happy. I knew that I would clear this year's school fees for my children on time.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
My children's education has always been my priority thus I do anything possible to ensure that I pay their school fees on time. When I received my first transfer, I used KES 45000 from it to pay their school fees. I am glad because this has allowed them to concentrate on their studies as they have never been sent back home. It has also enabled me to have a humble time to look for their school fees for next year. I used the remaining amount to buy a heifer for rearing. This will act as a permanent mark of GiveDirectly in our lives.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will greatly relieve me of the burden of paying school fees.I have four children in colleges and University.Raising their fees has always been a great challenge considering that our family is polygamous;four wives meaning that my spouse cannot fully support any of the four households.All this has been left to me to shoulder
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening.This is the time that I have completed my farmwork for the day and can finally rest my feet and share a meal with my family.Having been able to provide for my family what they needed for the day makes me very happy
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is school fees.I have eleven children and they are all in school;two in primary,three in secondary and four in colleges and university.Two have completed but have not secured jobs yet.My spouse is very old and therefore all the weight of raising the fees as well as all the other basic needs in the family are left to me.Money is very hard to come by in this area especially where the only economic activity we depend on is maize farming;which has been adversely affected by crop diseases and drought.
