How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I now have a dairy cow that I can lean on in case of financial challenges. Also, I currently have seats and I do not have to borrow from neighbors whenever I have a visitor. This was my norm before and I glad since it had changed.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by enrolling everyone and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I spent a good amount to buy a dairy cow and its calf. I settled on this so that my income from the dairy farming will increase. Also, I spent some amount to build a spacious kitchen for my family. I settled on this since the one we had was small and old. I spent the remaining amount to buy our daily household needs. I bought food to last us for some time and new clothes for everyone.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
It had always been my prayer to own a dairy cow like other people in our community due to the respect that comes with it. I would not have been able to achieve this had it not have been for GiveDitectlys support. Also, my family now feeds well as we have enough food unlike before. I am optimistic that the maize flour I bought will last us till the next harvesting season. Being able to achieve all these things within the same period makes my daily life different from how it was before.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I realized that GiveDirectly had sent me my fist transfer early in the morning after waking up. I became so happy at that time since I knew that I would be able to also own a dairy cow like other people in my community.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfers, I bought two heifers for rearing. When they reproduce, I will be getting milk for our consumption after selling some to earn an income. I will be using this income to pay school fees for my children and meet other household needs. Also, I used some amount on farming by buying some maize and bean seeds and in hiring a tractor to till my farm. I used the remaining amount to buy one sack of maize flour, rice, and clothes for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy a cow.I do not have one now and my children require milk in their diet. With the remaining amount,I plan to buy some chicken so I can starta small poultry farm to substitute my income from casual jobs
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is the time that i rest and prepare a meal for my family. With all the work to be done during the day, there is never time to rest and so when evening finally comes am very happy to rest, sit and chat with members of my family
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have a very small piece of land where I till and mostly plant maize. In our community, maize is the staple food. For the past few years,I have not had any harvest. This is mainly because of some maize crop disease that destroyed the crop.As a result,I have been forced to work twice as hard on casual jobs;switching between two or more jobs a day so I can make an extra income to provide for my family. These jobs strain me a lot. This is the biggeat hardship I have faced
