How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I had no new goals for this second transfer as I was focusing on completing the house that I had started building with the money from the first transfer because I wanted a better and bigger house that I will be proud of even when others see it will be impressed. The other goal was to add some more livestock because I know the game of numbers and I believe the more I have the better even for the future.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly is doing everything well, especially the freedom to choose what challenge we need to address without it telling us what to do or what not to. This is the best thing that ever happened in my life and I am so proud and grateful.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The thing that took a huge portion of my transfer is the livestock that I added to the ones that I already had which cost a total of KES13000 because I know the game of numbers and I believe the more I have the better even for the future since the money comes and goes but investment especially the livestock, they live on for ages. They will multiply and increase in numbers, and I will be able to sell one or two and address the financial challenge I will be facing in the future. I spent the other part of the transfer to complete and furnish my house because I needed a better place to sleep that even other people can see how comfortably my house appears, which is something that makes me so proud and happy.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was about 9 o'clock I was in my house relaxing. I had just arrived from the charcoal burning activity a casual job that I had to depend on to bring up my family. I heard our neighbours shouting and celebrating for receiving their transfer. One of the approached me and notify me to check my phone since they had received their transfer. On checking, I realize that I had received my transfer. I felt very happy for receiving my transfer that would improve our lives.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am currently able to provide for the basic needs of the family without a lot of struggle. Previously, we had to skip meals or even go to bed without food. This is because my job of charcoal burning could not provide enough income to feed the family. In addition, I have an alternative source of income after starting livestock rearing.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer to purchase building materials including 18 iron sheets at KES 880 each, 60 building poles. The house that I had was very small to fully accommodate all of the family members and our household equipments. My 3 children were forced to seek shelter from our neighbors every night something that stressed me a lot. I also spent KES 11,500 to purchase 3 goats a future investment for my family. I will be able to sell them to cater for any financial emergency that might arise in the future. In addition, I used KES 5,000 to support my kid's education by clearing their fee arrears. The remaining amount assisted me in purchasing enough food and water for the family since we are experiencing drought and famine in our area.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means good investment in my household. This is because I am a house wife and my husband is a Tuktuk driver which earns him very little to cater for all the needs in the house. I am planning to buy two indiginous dairy cows at Ksh.10,000 each and six goats at Kshs.2500.This will help me to produce milk for my own consumption and sell surplus to earn an income.I will also use the remaining portion of the transfer to renovate my house and cater for other basic needs such as food and clothing.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. This is because at this time, I am stresses free.I always prepare my children to go to school.Unlike in the afternoon and evening hours, when I am tired after spending the day doing casual jobs.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have ever faced in my family is lack of money. This is because I am a housewife and my husband depend s not casual job-Tuk Tuk driver.Due to this, I have been struggling to pay school fees for my Children since all the money goes to food. This has affected the education of my children.
