What does receiving this money mean to you?
As one of the youths from this area, I see a big opportunity here especially access to capital so that I can start a business of my own or improve the one we already have. My husband went to a vocational school and he has been struggling to improve his business of carpentry. Even relying on farming is never easy as the soil is not fertile enough not to apply fertilizer. Hence this money will be used to improve our house, invest more materials into the carpentry business as well as buy enough food and utensils for the household.
What is the happiest part of your day?
As a woman, my happiest part of the day is when I get to chat with my fellow women so as to get updated on what's going on in the community. In the evening, I tend to make sure food is ready for my husband after a hard day's work and that makes me happy knowing he is doing his best to take care of me and the incoming unborn child.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
On a good day, we make around MWK10,000 kwacha per day whenever there is an item to be made at the shop. However due to lack of other materials, my husband does not make the amount enough to start saving for other purposes such as a better house. Hence this money will be used to add much needed equipment at the shop and also within the household. Even some would go towards food to make sure there is enough maize before hunger season when it's expensive. We believe the carpentry shop is capable of earning us money to build our own house and also other household items we are lacking.
