How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am living a better life after receiving my transfer than I would have been if I had never received the transfers. Through cash transfer I was able to construct a semi permanent house for my family. Back in the days we use to live in a mud walled house which needed constant maintenance due to the crack walls. In addition, I have improved my farming by acquiring ox-plough which has replaced digging with hands which was tiresome and time consuming. Lastly, I own an indigenous dairy cow that will boost our nutrition by provide steady milk supply and sell extra litres to earn a living.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well for providing us with training before sending us the cash transfers. The transfers has transformed our lives for the better since used them wisely.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent $ 220 of my transfer to improve the condition of my house by purchasing cement, building stones, sand and paid labour charges in full. This was for constructing pillars to strengthen the walls of my house. I also spent $ 40 to pay school fees for my kids who are in primary school. In addition, I used $80to purchase ox-plough to assist me in tilling my farm. This because I had been using manual labour which is tiresome and time consuming. The remaining amount I bought one indigenous dairy cow for 220 dollars my plan is to start selling milk to my neighbour to earn a living once it reproduce.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was busy weeding my crops in my farm when I received a message on my phone. When I decided to check what the message was all about, I realised it was from GiveDirectly informing me that I had received my first transfer. I was filled with inexpressible joy since the transfer would change my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
For the first time now, I will be ploughing my farm using my own pair of oxen. These oxen are convenient and readily available as compared to using a tractor, which takes time for a person to be considered. Initially, I was only hiring oxen from neighbours at a fee which was expensive with a bigger acreage. Having my own pair will quicken my farming process because I am assured of timely preparation on the onset of rains. I will also be hiring these oxen to my neighbours at a fee, thus getting an income. Owning the pair of oxen makes it to be the biggest difference in my daily life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My desire has been to improve my farming by having a pair of oxen. This would help me to fasten the preparations and take advantage of the rains. Thus when I received my first transfer, I purchased two bulls to make up a pair at KES 36000. I also bought an ox-plough. I am now assured of ploughing my whole acreage on time. I will do my farming on time for a better harvest In addition to this, I also bought some building materials such as 20 pieces of iron sheets, building poles nails in order finish the construction of a new house for my children. They have been sheltering in our neighbours house since I could not accommodate them in our living house. It gives me a peace of mind seeing them having their own house to stay.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My ambition has been to own a well vanished bed with high density matress.Due to financial problems I have not been able to realize my wish. Receiving this money will be a major boost to me. I will use 20,000 shillings to buy a bed and matress, 30,000 shillings to build a house for my children and the remaining amount will be used to pay school fees and buy food for the family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I usually spend the day moving around searching for laundry job, which is very tiresome. However, evening becomes the happiest part of my day since it's at this time I rest, also catch up with my 6 children sharing meal with them while narrating stories to each other make feel relieved.
