How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I was able to expand my business which has been an important goal in my life. I won't able to achieve it earlier due to insufficient funds. I was also able to pay the bride price which had been difficult for my family to pay. Now we are officially together. I have also had a dream to rear livestock and now thanks to these funds I was able to buy some goats. All these would not have been possible without my Give directly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
According to my own opinion, I think that Give directly is on the right track and does not have to change a thing. Their whole motto of providing money for people like me who are less fortunate to enable us to fend for ourselves has been a blessing in disguise. The money has helped me to have financial security a stable home and a comfortable lifestyle.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
This last transfer that was sent out, I was able to furnish my house. This was by spending KES.1400 on two beds, a pair of mattresses worth KES.12000, and a chair costing KES.500. The rest of the money which is KES.51100 was used to invest in my business which was is a general shop. This will provide financial security for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Being a housewife, I was in the house doing the households chores when I got message notifications on my phone. After checking, I realized that I had received my transfer. I felt very happy and I immediately called my husband to inform him about the good news. He was happy too and he promised to come home for us to plan on how best to utilize our transfer.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Owning livestock like others in the village that will help me whenever I face any financial emergency is the biggest difference in my life. I had been desiring to start this activity but I lack the finances. I thank GiveDirectly for the aid that has enabled me to achieve my desire. Previously, I was depending on my spouse's shop business which he was operating with the loan.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I invested KES 34,700 to boost my husband's shop business by purchasing more stock. This is because he was running the shop with fewer stocks and some customers would walk to other shops. In some instances, he would take stock from the suppliers on loan where he is required to pay back the cost goods with a profit. Currently, his sales have increased from KES 8,000 to KES 12,000 per day. In addition, I spent KES 20,000 to start goats rearing by purchasing 4 goats. I had desired to start livestock rearing like others in the village so that I was have something to depend on whenever I encounter any financial challenge but I lack the capital to initiate it. This is a long-term investment for the children when they start going to school I will be able to sell them to pay for their school fees.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means self employment for me. For the past three years ,I have been depending on my husband who works as a shopkeeper to cater for the family. The money my husband gets, only sustains the family and is not enough to start a business.Once I get the money, I will rent some premises and have my own shop. I believe having my own shop means a better income that will efficiently sustain my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is the morning. When I wake up in the morning and see my only child very healthy makes me have a very peaceful day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of money is the biggest hardship. Over the past few years, I have wished to have my own business but due to unemployment,it has been impossible. I fully depend on my husband to provide for me.
