How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
When I received the money from GiveDirectly and settled the issue of school fees that had become a huge bother for me I felt relieved. I could still be struggling to pay for their previous terms school fees because I could not keep up with it. I was at one point considering to sell my farm in order to raise the amount needed. But after GiveDirectly came, I am now able to pay and keep them settled in school without stressing me up like before. I am a better parent now that they are well catered for.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirecly did well because it changes the lives of many people. they worked in my village without any offenses. There was no need to bribe anyone because GiveDirectly is very straight forward and free of corruption. With such high integrity, this organization is the best that there is on Kenya.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the money I received on paying school fees for my children in secondary schools. I have two in an expansive secondary school. It had been a huge challenge for me to manage it. I had to use part of the money that I received from GiveDireclly to clear their school fees. I also bought a dairy cow. I am currently benefiting from selling milk that it produces. I also used part of the money on treatment for my child. I took the child to a big hospital in my county where I found the treatment that was needed.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have paid school fees for my children in school. I depend on small scale farming to earn some income to meet the basic needs including paying school fees. I could also do casual jobs in the village to earn an income to support my daily activities. At some point, my children were sent home and this was affecting their performance in school. When I received the money I cleared all the school fees balances and my children are no longer sent home to collect the school fees. Their performance has improved compared to previous terms. I am so happy because I no longer do much of the casual jobs, I have devoted much of my time on farming at home.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money I felt so happy. I remember it was very early in the morning when I heard a message notification on my phone, little did I know that it was from GiveDirectly. We really celebrated with my family. I knew from that point that I will be able to pay school fees for my children in secondary.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer on school fees for my three children in secondary school and the rest of the money I used it in building a better and spacious house for my family. We used to live in a small house with my family and it was not very comfortable, its a taboo in our culture to live in one house with grown-up children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will enable me build an iron -roofed house. We currently live in a hut which even though it is not so small,it is a bit congested. My children are all grown now and we all have to share this house which is not quite right.I intend to build a separate one so that this one can serve as the kitchen and sleeping place for my daughters.I will also buy a cow which to me is a form of investing the money as well as increasing our household income from sale of milk
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening.I spend most of the day working in my 0.5 acre piece of land in order to provide food for my family. In the evening,I get time to rest and chat with members of my extended family.Having this moment of rest makes me happy and helps collect my energy for the next day's work.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is raising school fees for my three children in secondary school.I have been straining a lot especially since I have no means of income. All i depend on is milk produced by our cow which i take to the school where my children attend. The amount produced each day cannot even cater for one of them for a whole term.Hence,I have even reached a point of borrowing from relatives and holding fundraisers in order to keep them in school.
