How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have been able to meet my ambition of owning a farmland for sugarcane farming. I would have not realized this without the transfer from GiveDirectly. I would be still waking very early in the morning to search for tedious casual labor from another people's farms that eventually would not be if any meaningful rewards.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has lifted people from real poverty by giving unconditional cash transfer. It is true that many of the community members lacked even mattresses to sleep on. Today everyone speaks of comfort and sweet dreams when sleeping since they were able to buy mattresses from the transfer. There is peaceful coexistence among village members since no one is a bother. Children have been taken to school and arrears settled.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I have withdrawn the second transfer and spent it on Leasing a land that I would like to do sugarcane farming on. Sugarcane farming is a prime investment in this region and I hope that through this, I would have increased cash flow. This would enable be pay school fees for my children with ease and also meet their basic needs like clothing food, medication and better housing.
