Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I am happy because I started the construction of a permanent house. Previously, I had no hopes having lost my job. I had much more family needs and responsibilities. With the fish business that we started, we earn daily income to support the business. The cash transfers have empowered me alot.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was very happy when I received the cash transfer. I had no hopes of benefiting from GiveDirectly given the diversity of the program.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I bought ironsheets worth UGX280000 and cement worth UGX125000. I bought a mattress worth UGX200000 and clothes worth UGX200000. I spent UGX400000 on baking bricks. I spent UGX240000 on labour. I gave my spouse UGX200000 to start a fish business. The balance was spent on food.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means building a Permanent house that will accommodate all household members. This will increase on savings and standard of living. I spend a lot of money on yearly basis renovating grass thatched houses and it's cost is very huge and affects household's savings.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is around 2:00pm after garden work/lunch. This is the time when I usually go out to the centre to make some money g my household with motor cycle transport business which supports me in solving so many household problems like treatment, feeding, to mention.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face in my life is poor housing. I sleep in a grass thatched house which demands renovation on yearly basis. This has denied my household ability to stabilize in the saving culture which has affected education g my children as well. These houses require renovation one after the other hence lacking sustainability.
