Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received the cash I was so excited and happy because I felt that I will be relieved of some the burdens that I have been facing.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving these payments is that In the past I could not afford to procure 2 bags of fertilizer at a time but now I managed to procure and I also had enough money to buy other things like food.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my most recent transfer to procure 2 bags of fertiliser in preparation of the next rainy season so that I can be able to produce more yields..I bought these 2 bags at an approximate amount of $130. Furthermore, I bought 5 bags of maize for my whole family..These bags of maize will take my household untill January next year since it is a small family..1 bag of maize was bought at a price of $20. Then, I bought a goat at a price of $35 so that I can start raising for future purchases i.e. when I do not have enough money, I can be able to sell and buy food.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Receiving this money will help me to buy more materials for my business. I have a diesel maizemill so I would use the money to buy spare parts and diesel. On a daily basis depending on the demand, I use 5-10 litres of diesel. The cost of diesel is $2.50 per litre at our nearest trading centre which is 50 kilometers away and the transport cost is $4-$15.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I was the happiestin the month of June. I was the happiest because my son was one of the attendees of an initiation ceremony which is called Jando in our community.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge that I am currently facing is hunger. I have a one acre farm which I planted maize but I was only able to harvest six bags because the farm was affected by the Cyclone Ana which only sustained my family for four months. In the past harvest years I was able to harvest more than ten bags. This has affected my family's health because we have not been able to eat the recommended nutritious meals a day.
