Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that I have been able to construct a two roomed permanent house. I am currently waiting to fix the doors and the interior finishing. Before receiving the cash transfers, I was living in a worrisome situation because ant hills had developed in my thatched house. At my advanced age, I had no hopes of ever constructing a nice house for myself. I appreciate GiveDirectly for this financial support.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the cash transfer message late at night. When I read it , I felt very happy because I had hopes of constructing a good permanent house.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent UGX 600000 to purchase bricks and UGX 60000 to purchase cement and UGX 195000 to purchase iron sheets and UGX 150000 to purchase timber and UGX 200000 to purchase nails. I paid the builder UGX 300000. I spent UGX 100000 to buy water for the house construction. The balance of UGX 300000 I plan to spend it on finishing the veranda and purchasing doors.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I badly need a house that is roofed with ironsheets because the one I'm in currently is grass thatched. This grass needs to be replaced atleast after every six months of which it is costly and the grass is scarce. So, when I get this money, I will build an ironsheets house that is going to save me from the hustle of looking for thatching grass.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon around midday. This is the time I get to rest and expecting to have a meal.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is illness. I have heart related sickness that occassionally put me down. I have spent alot of money on treatment including staking some piece of land for a loan to get treatment.
