Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had finished eating lunch at around 2:00pm when I received the transfers. I was going through a lot due to financial problems and I was so happy because I knew I was going to fulfill my dreams all thanks to GiveDirectly
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
We have a house and nolonger sleep under such a bad condition. We also have enough food for the family all thanks to GiveDirectly
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My family and I were sleeping on the floor, under a house made by of grass and we could sometimes sleep hungry since i depended on my husband who is a motorcycle rider being paid a commission of 200 KES and even 100 KES on a bad day. After receiving the transfers, i was so happy because I knew I was about to fulfill my dreams. I spend 40000 KES to build a house, 8000 KES to buy a mattress and bed and the balance to buy food and other basic necessities for the family. I thank God for it and May He bless GiveDirectly.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Imagine living in a tiny single roomed house with a roof made of palm leaves that leaks everywhere. This is what I have been going through every rainy season for the last about three years! Most of the time I can't even sleep at night when it's raining and can't cook either because every part of the floor is wet. When I get this money I'll make it a priority to buy iron sheets and build a bigger house that can have at least a bedroom, living room and a room for my children that I can also conveniently use for a kitchen.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Two weeks ago my husband gave me KES 1500 after getting a particular well paying ride of a great distance and this made me very happy. I managed to buy beautiful clothes that I couldn't afford even during Christmas last year and also shopped for foodstuffs that will serve my family for at least a week.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Joblessness still remains my biggest challenge as I do not have any economic involvement at the moment. My husband is a motorcycle taxi rider and he gets only avarage of 300 after paying bike owner leaving us with very little to depend on. I would like to also start a business to be able to generate income to supplement.
