What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The problems I have been encountering as a student since I joined secondary school are very money. Often being sent home to pick school fees which my parents did not have. Since the first day I enrolled in the program, I have seen some significant change in my life. I spent my two previous transfers to buy chicken and start a poultry project. I am now selling eggs and the income from it has helped pay my school fees. When I received my recent transfer of KSH 3000, I used it to build a housing structure for the chicken. I used to shelter them in carton boxes but they have increased in numbers and the cartons are not enough to hold all of them. The structure will ensure they are free and safe from birds of prey and also ensure maximum production of the eggs.

What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Since the beginning of the year, I had never bought even a single clothe because I had no source of income. The little money I could receive through well-wishers could only pay my college fees. When I received my third transfer, I spent my most recent transfers to buy new clothes to add to my old wardrobe. I am glad that courtesy of GiveDirectly transfers, I currently have new set of clothes.

In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The money I get from Give Directly has helped me a lot in so many ways already. For example, I now am financially independent of my family. My father is the one whom we looked up to whenever we needed money for school fees and other requests. This unconditional money is also ensuring that everyone prioritizes what they feel is needed.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Fees myself .my dad didn't have money 1500. 1500food. Wiring. I have been missing out on school due to school fees arrears. When I received the first transfer I was happy that this program was true to its words. I decided that even though my parents cared for me it was time to be financially independent. This means I would cater for everything. I used half of the transfer that is KES.1500 to pay school fees while the rest of the no et I used to buy food.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the text message early in the morning at around 9 am. I was preparing to out and look for a job and get the money that I would use to buy food. I heard my phone ringing. When I looked, I found out that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I was very happy. The good news made me smile the whole day.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The money has and will make a great difference in my life. I have already bought food for my family. We can now smile that we have something to eat every day. I am also grateful that with time I will be able to enroll in college and acquire skills in welding. With these skills, I will be able to work and help my family out and also develop myself for the future.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I received a total of KSH 3000 from GiveDirectly. I did finish my high school education a long time ago. Due to the poor state my parents are in, I was not able to go forward with my education so I decided to stay at home and help my parents out. I have been doing casual jobs to be able to sustain myself and my family. I have always wanted to continue with my education. When I received the funds I decide to save KSH 2000 so that I can use them to pay my college fee when I enroll in school. I also use KSH 1000 in buying food for the family. We did not have food at all at home and that’s what prompted me to buy food.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I recently joined college to pursue a welding course with the hope of getting employment after completion. However, my biggest worry was around school fees because I have four siblings who are still schooling. With my parent's earnings, I had already figured a scenario whereby I'll be out of school more frequently than I can imagine. These transfers are a perfect match for my college fees because it requires 3000 KES every month, to undertake the one-year course. Receiving this money means a smooth college life for me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Imagine the feeling of stepping into Mombasa City after three years of staying in the village. I was quite amazed to see how beautiful the city has become. I couldn't take my eyes off the well-decorated buildings.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
As a student, financial instability is a challenge for me. Depending on my parents for every provision means I cannot afford anything that my heart desires. The little pocket money that they give me caters to food only, thus compromising other needs. I cannot even dress as per the current fashions and trends because of limited finances.
