What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
It's important for a family to own cattle, especially dairy cows because we use milk at our home frequently. When we didn't have any, we had to buy milk at KES 40 a litre. This is why I was so happy to spend KES 38,000 of the transfer on buying one. I have saved the remaining KES 16,700. I plan on using it to purchase a calf, that I could sell whenever I need money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is that I now own a dairy cow that supplies my family of four with milk. Before acquiring it, we had to spend at least KES 40 on buying the same every morning, which was costly for us. Now, we no longer have to. We save that amount and spend it on meeting our other needs, including buying food such as maize. We also sell the surplus at KES 40 per litre and earn some money. I am so thankful for this cash transfer.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at home having breakfast when I heard a beep on my phone. On checking it, I saw the message indicating that I had received KES from GiveDirectly. I couldn't contain my joy when it occurred to me that I finally had the money to buy a dairy cow.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge that I am facing currently is financial constraints. I have the desire to set up a shop at the center near my home but I have not been able to do so because I have no capital. I rely on the money that I get from selling milk to take care of my family and I have not been able to save any money left and start this business.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I have been healthy and strong for the last months and delivering my baby safely compounded my happiness. Delivering safely and him being healthy has brought me joy in the last 6 months.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will mean that I will be able to buy another cow and sell more milk which in turn will boost my income. I normally earn KES 1500 monthly when I sell 1 and a half liters if milk daily to a dairy co-operative nearby. This money is not sufficient to meet my needs. Buying another cow will mean that I will sell up to 5 liters daily and earn more than KES 4000 at the end of the month.
