How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Having invested my money in the ways that I did, my plan now is to make sure that we buy a piece of land. I rely entirely on farming to earn a living but the small piece of land that we own is hardly enough to allow me practice commercial agriculture. I intend to save up from the farm produce that I sell in order to realize this.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly did so well in giving eveyone money unconditionally and giving them power to decide on how they are going to spend the money. This came with a lot of happiness and made everyone responsible on how they spent their money.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Used KES 40000 to buy heifers and used the remaining amount to buy food for family. Livestock investment is very important especially for us as a family since the climate here is very favourable and they easily multiply hence the decision to do so. My family too got an opportunity to have enough food supply until now courtesy of GiveDirectly transfers.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
With my kid that morning at home, I received a message that after reading, I was so excited as it was bearing the good news of the transfer disbursement from GiveDirectly. I had been anticipating the message so much, and so my husband who never missed a chance to ask every time he called from his workplace. I had to inform him immediately and he was equally excited. We agreed on withdrawal dates as we had every plan on how we will be spending it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the ease of accessing plenty of water from the large water tank I obtained. Livestock management and other household activities that needed water are no longer a major problem as the rains are still on. I am hoping to see the tank full in a week, and this means I will be enjoying enough water supply for a good number of months ahead.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The cost of fetching water from a river far away from my household had been so high especially during dry seasons. The livestock on our field that needs several gallons of water every day had been so demanding that we have always had to hire someone to ensure enough supply of water every day. I have hoped to accumulate some money so that I can buy a larger reservoir that could in turn collect the rainwater that could keep us for a good number of months after the rain. On receiving the first transfer, obtaining a large water tank became a priority. We managed to buy a 3000-liters plastic tank at KES21000 and lucky enough we had been experiencing daily rainfall since we bought it. With the remaining amount, I spent a larger portion of it after an agreement with my husband on the completion of our new house. We had to obtain floor tiles worth KES 10000, 6 bags of cement at KES4800 and met the labor charges of KES6000. It feels good to be living in a clean house with a well-furnished interior that is so easy to clean as the floors are now smoother than before. We then spent the remaining on obtaining enough foodstuff for my family of three and other household goods.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money would mean an end to my struggle to complete school. My parents could not raise money to take me to college after high school and my dream has been to be a teacher. I thank Givedirectly for enrolling me in this program and immediately I receive these transfers I will enroll in a teachers college and use all the transfers to pay for school fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is usually in the evening because I get to relax after a long day doing my usual household chores
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship in my life has been having to survive without a college education despite having passed well in high school. I was hopeless thinking that my future has just gone down the drain.
