How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have a plan to buy more goats for rearing. I plan to get the money for buying the goats from my motorcycle business. I usually make about KES 400 per day from the business out of which I save some of it by making merry-go-round contributions to a self-help group that I am in. I am waiting for my turn to receive the contributions and I plan to use part of the money on buying more goats. I have been rearing a few of them and I have seen their benefit. They multiply quickly in number. I plan to sell some of them in the future and use the money on other things such as buying more land.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well because they changed the lives of many in the community for the better. The people were able to make many developments with the transfers such as they bought livestock, they built houses, and many more. I, therefore, urge them to continue with the same.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of my second transfer on buying a cow. I have always wanted to own one because I usually incur the cost of buying milk. I buy a litre of milk daily at KES 45. This is costly to us. I depend on my motorcycle business to earn a living. I usually make approximately KES 400 per day where I save most of the money by making merry-go-round contributions to a self-help group that I am in. I also grow some crops on my farm and I usually sell some of the products when I harvest them. I plan to use the money that I will receive from the group plus the one from the sales on paying school fees for my wife who is planning to join a college. The little money that I am left with after saving to the group, I usually use it in buying food and milk for my family. I have hence not been able to buy a cow because I didn't have the large sum of money that is needed to do so.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 9 am I was on my farm when I heard my phone vibrating, when I checked I saw a Mpesa message alert that I have received KES 55000 from GiveDirectly, I was thankful to God that I had received the promised transfer, I immediately called my wife and broke the good news to her, she was equally happy, excited and grateful.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that my house is decent and spacious. My children are also so happy that we have a lovely house. This was not possible before because I am a motorcycle taxi rider and my income was very little hence I could not afford to build a house, what I earn was only enough to buy food and other basic needs. I am happy that I was able to accomplish my goals within a short period. Thanks to GiveDirectly my living standards have been lifted to a higher level.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my business in building a good decent iron-sheet roofed house for my family, the one that I was living in was a small grass-thatched house and a single room, I used KES 25,000, I then used the remaining part of the transfer in buying cushions and foodstuff, I am happy that my family has a decent home to call home.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a farmer and it is always my ambitions to do better in farming to increase my income and assets in the family. To me receiving this money means I will be able to buy livestock to add to my herd by spending KES40000 to buy a dairy cow and two sheep. These are added asset to my family and I will be able have more milk for both household use and sales. I wish to spend KES20000 to build a semi permanent kitchen since the one I am using is become old and it is soon starting to leak. I am planning to use KES30000 to buy household items starting with furniture since I have been luck to build a spacious house but ran out of financial to furnish it.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the midmorning since this the time that my motorcycle taxi business is at its peak. I make more income at this hour thus I am assured I will be able to meet my family daily needs.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I started engaging in casual jobs at my tender age since I couldn't continue with my studies due to limited resources. Working as a casual labourer hasn't been an easy task facing challenges like little wages, rude employers and working in hostile conditions. To me the biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of financial capacity to do my own and even study to higher level that would have been better for me and my family.
