How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
At the moment, I am working on the construction that I initiated right after receiving my transfer. This does not stop me from thinking and planning for my family. I am looking forward to a gradual saving that will enhance the purchase of an additional piece of land since I had been living on my parents' land that is yet to be subdivided among all my in-laws. Before then, I am hoping that all the running projects will help raise enough money that will facilitate the implementation of my dreams.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly gave us direct cash transfers that came to our accounts as it was promised during enrollment. It was an easy process that neither involved any paperwork nor any payment for us to receive. We are celebrating the great work done by GiveDirectly, and with our blessings, we are wishing them well as they proceed with the great work in other villages.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After receiving the second transfer, all plans to construct a new house were in place and had to initiate the construction that will provide a decent and spacious room for my family of three. I am glad that, even though I have exhausted all the money that I had received after the s second transfer, the work is soon coming to completion. All the exterior work is completed and soon moving to the interior part where I will fix a ceiling board and also the floors that I am yet to buy enough sand, gravel, and also cement. It will be a relief for my family after living in an old house for a long time. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for this generous support that has changed the face of my family, and I am confident that things will keep getting better in the days to come.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 9am when I heard message notification. I was fetching the firewood at a place not far from home .When I checked it out I couldn't believe my eyes. It was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I have never received such amount of money before. I stopped whatever I was doing to recheck it once more. I felt so happy and immediately informed my family members and they were so happy too. I knew I would be able to to buy building materials. I went and withdrew the money the same day and plan on how to spend it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have I invested some money on my business. I have a small business of selling second hand clothes. I always go to market on Monday's, Thurday's and Friday's. This had been my source of income. I used the money to buy food and other household items including paying the school fees. Before I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I was almost closing the business because I had used some money on food and other household needs. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I felt so happy. I found it worth to invest on it. Currently I have a bigger stock and I am able to earn a good profits after sales. This enable me to improve my standard of living and even save some amount in merry go round group that we started in our village. I have devoted much of my time on this amazing business and I wish to grow it to a bigger level in the near future.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 35,000 on purchasing building materials ready to build a better house for my family. I am still waiting for the second transfer to start the construction process. We will be living in a spacious and decent house. I added stock to my business of selling second hand clothes. This has always been my source of income and I found it worth to invest on it. The rest of the money I spent on food and clothes for my children. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a business lady who moves from one market to the other selling second-hand clothes. I visit Chebunyo on Mondays, Siongiroi on Thursdays and Sigor on Fridays. I invested KES 20000 in this business 8 months ago and as we talk I have started realizing profits. Two months ago, I have consistently earned a weekly profit of not less than KES 5000 and this has enabled me to meet my basic needs like food and clothing for my 2 children as well as save for their school fees. I intend to put an additional KES 20000 into this venture to double the returns. Receiving this money will enable me to have a stable business that will make me financially reliant.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I spend my mornings doing energy-draining activities such as weeding and fetching water from a nearby water pan. It is in the afternoon that I get to rest and this, therefore, makes it the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Having a mother who is of unstable mind has been one of the biggest hardships I have faced. All my life I have seen my mother walk aimlessly with old clothes on, and this is making me feel very sad. As a family, we have gotten into a desperate situation because we cannot do anything to help her get out of this. When we could not take good care of her our grandmother came for her and that worsen our predicament. My father was forced to marry the second wife and we had to fend for ourselves with my siblings.
