How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am looking forward to taking care of my dairy cows that I bought so that they can multiply. This means that, I will be able to sell milk and earn some income in future and I will not be a burden to my family at my old age. They will find it easy taking care of me and I am grateful to GiveDirectly as all this will not have been possible were it not for the transfers.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What GiveDirectly does well is supporting us in various ways. My life and that of many more people in the society have changed forever because of the transfers and we couldn't be more grateful than we are as we urge them to continue supporting more people to change their lives
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
At my old age, I live by myself and I can not do much to earn income. I was afraid that in the next few years, I will have nothing to depend on and I will become a liability to other people because I did not have a better job during my early years and so I don't have pension to rely on. When I received my transfers, I invested them on buying dairy cows so that I will be able to sell milk in few years time and earn income to sustain me. I spend $150 of my second transfer to buy a dairy calf, $90 to buy two goats and I have been spending the balance on daily needs.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, I was busy at my workplace. Then suddenly I heard my phone ringing, Upon checking I realised that I had a text message on my phone showing that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness. I knew that I would be able to spend my transfer on accomplishing my goals. I am grateful for the wonderful opportunity that we were given for us to empower our lives.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to build a decent house for my family. Which I was unable to build before due to financial constraints. Secondly, I started a goat rearing project in which I am hopeful that I would be able to sell and make a profit in future. I have been able to accomplish my dreams in a short period hence I am grateful to the organization for putting smiles on our faces and for transforming our living standards amazingly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The transfer came as a big relief in my life because I wanted to construct a decent house for my family which I was unable to implement before due to financial constraints since I work as a casual worker thus the pay is not reliable. Therefore, I used a sum of KES 21,000 in constructing a decent house. I then used KES 10,000 in paying back a debt that had accumulated for a while now. Lastly, I used KES 16,000 on starting a goat rearing business where I bought four goats. I feel happy and contented to have achieved so much in a short time.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have eight children that were left under my care when their mother died due to a medical condition. Being alone and having no source of income, I had to sell all the animals that I had and also a portion of land so that they could go to school. This left me with nothing save for the house and a small garden that I farm. Receiving this money will offer me some relief since I plan to buy a dairy cow that goes for KES 40000 which will enable me to get some money for food through the sale of milk.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Our area has received sufficient rain that has enabled me to plant maize in my small farm that is near to be harvested. This has brought me joy because I know that I will not lack and that my family will have food for the coming months.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constraint is the major challenge that I am currently facing due to the unavailable jobs. I do house construction as a way of earning money and rely on referrals which at times are not available and earning some money on such days is impossible.
