Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
We sleep peacefully and comfortably on nice bedding courtesy of the cash transfers. Previously, we were miserable and did not have good bedding for use at home. We had to share an old tattered mattress. More so, I am happy because I will be in position to renovate and plaster the house. This is an achievement that I have achieved within the shortest time.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I heard the phone buzzing that night. On reading the message, I felt very excited because GIveDirectly had chosen to raise me out of poverty.

The first cash transfer was spent on purchasing two trips of sand worth UGX 140000 and 11 bags of cement worth UGX 275000. I bought four windows and one door worth UGX 260000. I bought a mattress worth UGX 115000 and bed sheets worth UGX 20000. I bought utensils and a water tank all worth UGX 125000. I bought clothes worth UGX 20000. I paid school fees worth UGX 20000. What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to plaster and cement my house. I built iron-roofed house but it's threatening to collapse because of rains. My family members are at a risk of being covered by a collapsing wall, so this transfers will make me varnish it well. The wall and floor shall provide comfortable resident to my family members and their lives will be out of danger.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of the day is evening hours. My children tell what they learnt from school and it's an encouragement to the whole family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is hunger. My family members some times eats ones a day and this is making them sickly hence I waste a lot money on treatment since their immunity is weakening.
