How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My goal is to build a new house for myself. Since I been living in this town, I have not been able to afford a house. I live together with my wife and two children. We live in a house that belongs to a friend. Building my own house has been my biggest desired. But I was unable due to limited finance. My only source of income is farming. I do not make much from it. Receiving this cash from GiveDirectly, has set my desire right. Soon enough, I will be a house owner.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
It is my opinion that GiveDirectly has done so much well for us in this town. As for me, before, I could not afford the cost of a single sheet of zinc. All through, my family and I have been living in a friend house. It has been so disgraceful to me that I could not afford a house on my own. I never had the money. But thanks to GiveDirectly for helping me out. Through GiveDirectly, I feel like a man now. I am fully able to afford the cost of building a house from the cash received. For things not done well by GiveDirectly, I am not aware and have not seen anything of such manner.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought two bundles of zinc and gasoline to begin the sawing of planks to start the construction of my house. This has seriously been my desire. But the lack of money has not afford me the means of constructing a house for myself. Many days I felt ashame of living in a friend house with my family. Despite the embarrassment, nothing that I could do. Hopefully, the coming of GiveDirectly turn my worry into joy. Because of the cash transfers received, I have bought sufficient iron sheets and gasoline for the construction my house.
