How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
Before the transfers, I used to have a difficult time ensuring my children are not sent away for school fees. This is because I used to depend on casual work of ploughing other people's farm and the income could hardly feed us. Whenever my children were sent away for school fees, I would have to go and borrow because I did not have any savings or emergency money. On such days, we would most days, miss all the meals a day just to save to go pay school fees. In as much as I have not cleared their balances, I am happy they are rarely sent home for the same. I feel proud because I know they will perform better than the previous years. This is because they have more studying time in school.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My new goal in the next four months is to plaster my house. Smearing every month has become tiresome due to my old age. I would like to even plaster the outside wall alone just to ensure the rains does not wash away the mud on the walls. This will also help save the money I use for hiring labour for smearing to use on other family needs.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my life since I started receiving these transfers is that I have never missed any meal in a day. I have always had three meals a day which was just but a story before last year. Since I depend on casual work of ploughing other people's farm, I have never had enough income to support all my family demands. Whenever I had an emergency like children being sent home for school fees or one of us was sick, we would hardly have even a meal. This is because I would borrow money to handle such emergency and use what we would have had for food to pay the debt. With the transfers, I have been able to budget well and ensure every day we have all the three meals a day.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months, I want to ensure I have a semi-permanent house. This I will realize by saving part of my transfers to buy cement and sand to use in plastering my house. I have always had to smear every month and due to old age, I always hire others to smear for me. This has been costly and would want to plaster my house so that the money for hiring someone to smear, I can use on other family needs.
