How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Building a house has always been my greatest desire. So, when I received my first transfer, I decided to build a bigger house. However, upon receiving my next transfer from GiveDirectly, I've also decided to set up a new business. This will provide additional source of income to improve the livelihood of my family. Having received my second transfer from GiveDirectly, starting a new business has become my newest objective.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
My notion of GiveDirectly as an integrity NGO remains unmatched. Every aspect of this organization is unrivaled. They give hope to extremely poor people like us by reaching out to these abandon and hard to reach towns and villages. They are very fair in selecting qualified beneficiaries. Finally, they are honest in delivering cash transfer to bona fide receipients. I don't see anything that GiveDirectly has been doing badly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
All of my life I've envisioned starting a new business and living in a bigger house. Therefore, when I received my transfer from GiveDirectly, I bought two bundles of zinc for $21,000LD to build my new house. Likewise, I also pay $4,000LD for custic and $1,200LD for 6gallons of oil. The custic and oil will be used to make iron soap for sale. Eventually, the soap business will create an extra source of income for my family. GiveDirectly's money transfer has improved my livelihood.

The biggest difference in my daily life now is, I have started making soap with some of my transfer to sell to earning my own money to support my family. Unlike before, I was hired to make soap for others. This time around, I do not go out of cash. I was worried about my children school fees, but with my transfer from GiveDirectly, I have paid some of their fees. I will continue to make soap, because I want to always feed my children with good food and keep them in school. This is the biggest difference in my daily life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have soap making skill. Before I got enrolled in this program, I helped my mother to make her soap and when she sells, she gave me some money, but it was not sufficient for my family up keep. When I received my first transfer, I bought ten tan of palm oil and a bag of caustic. I am now able to independently make my own soap to sell and feed my family. I used some portion of my money to pay my children school fees. I am not worry about their fees any more.
