Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received a message early in the morning as I was already up for my days task. On checking the contents of the message, I was overwhelmed with joy because GiveDirectly had finally sent the first transfer. I saw the whole villages breaking into rejoicing as well and praising GiveDirectly for what they had done to our lives.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I am always grateful to GiveDirectly for their visit has changed my life. Through their financial support, I achieved what has been my greatest desire; to buy cows and keep them for the future of my children's education. They are now still young and I know in the future, I may be required to raise money for their education. Thus I will have these three cows to lean on and besides, with time , I am expecting these cows to reproduce and increase in number. I will also be benefiting from the milk that they will producing. Owning these cows is the biggest difference in my daily life, because I wouldn't have managed to buy them on my own cost.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 42500 to purchase three heifers which I am currently keeping in my homestead. My biggest expectation is that these heifers will be a saving for the future of my children's education who are still young. Thus even as they multiply, I will be able to sell in the future so as to raise finance for my children. I am expecting also to have a herd since these are the most valuable assets that one can have despite lacking a stable source of income. I spent the remaining amount of the transfer to cater for my household expenses and also purchased some household items that I was lacking in my home.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
The ability to provide my children with a better future through education is something that I yearn to achieve. Receiving this money will, therefore, enable me to secure this and as such, I intend to spend all my transfers on raising calves. They are not labor-intensive and mature rapidly. Having 10 of them will be a dream come true. According to my projection, they will be ready for market in two years or so. Progressively, I will maintain the same cycle and am certain my children's future will be secured. And that is what receiving this money means to me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is the happiest part of my day. During the rest part of the day, my schedule is very tight; myriads of activities from caring for the young ones to undertaking the household chores. It is in the evening when children are asleep when I get time for myself to also rest. And that informs the best part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of adequate finances has been the biggest hardship in life. My husband is a casual laborer, and his income can barely sustain our needs. On the other hand, I used to be an ECD ( Early Childhood Development) teacher but salary was not forthcoming. I had to run into debts hoping the situation was going to be salvaged, unfortunately, I had to down my tools and focus on subsistence farming. And that explains the biggest hardship I've faced in life.
