Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I was depressed at that time because I needed money to help the family. I feel very happy because the cash transfer has enabled me acquire a number of household items within a short period of time. Before receiving the cash transfers, my school going children were at home due to lack of school fees and this bothered me alot. Thanks be to GiveDirectly, I was able to pay their school fees and they resumed their studies.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I heard the message tone however I could not read. I called my son who read the message for me. At that moment I felt very happy and overwhelmed with joy.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent UGX 150000 to buy a mattress and bed sheets worth 20000. I bought a blanket worth UGX 60000 and a pair of curtains worth UGX 15000. I bought iron sheets worth UGX 368000 and a door worth UGX 160000 and two windows worth UGX 100000. I bought household items such as two flasks worth UGX 70000 and utensils worth UGX 70000. I bought a goat worth UGX 100000. I spent UGX 60000 on medical bills. I spent UGX 160000 on school fees. I bought a bag of posho flour worth UGX 100000. The rest of the cash transfer was spent on food and transport.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to complete my house. I have openings at the wall of my house , rain and coldness enters through it. I Will plaster my house to cover those openings. There will be warms in my house and no more coldness.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My favourite part of the day is afternoon especially after lunch. Iam able to carry on with other duties since I feel satisfied.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is lack farm land. My family is facing serious poverty levels since I have no where to farm for production. I have failed to provide many basic needs at home.
