How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
We are leading a higher standard of living as a family following receipt of the financial support from GiveDirecrly. We are looking forward to a brighter future since we gain sufficient profits for sustaining our lives while making some savings to be used in case of an emergency. If not for the transfer, I would not have managed to make any savings, something that could make us more vulnerable in case of uncertainties. Thank you GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by keeping its promises. The organization sticks to the time of sending the transfers and its promise that the financial aid is a grant. I find nothing that GiveDirectly is not doing well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent almost 150 USD of my second transfer on improving my kitchen by establishing a bigger and more decent one. We had been using a relatively small and dilapidated kitchen, something that adversely affects our self-esteem. The roof of our new kitchen is made of iron sheets, unlike the older one that was grass-thatched. Also, I bought more birds to expand my poultry farming project using 100 USD. I have always endeavored to develop my small-scale poultry farming to a medium one to realize substantial profits. Further, I utilized 250 USD on expanding my business of trading on raw milk to realize more profits that would sustain us and allow us to develop/ grow our wealth through savings. Currently, the profits I have been realizing from my poultry farming and trading on milk could barely sustain us, leaving us with no amount to save.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was out doing some casual jobs as it is my norm when I received a notification. Upon checking I had been sent KES 55000, I felt so happy as I had never gotten such an amount of money before.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Due to lack of jobs and poor payment, I couldn't do much to change my life. But when I received my first transfers, alot changed. I now have a good house, good furniture and clothes. Thanks GiveDirectly for all you did to me.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Before, we were living in a grass tached house but when I received my first transfers from GiveDirectly, I spent KES 25000 on buying building materials for constructing a house. I then spent another KES 5000 on paying for labour for the construction. I then bought twenty chicken at a cost of KES 10000 so that I would rare for eggs. The remaining amount, I spent KES 7500 on buying clothes for my family members. After completing the house I bought some new furniture at Kes 6500 which I put on my new house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My parent sent me away from the family in May 2020. I decide to start building my own house which small but now that I am about to get Give Directly transfers, I will build a bigger house so that the one I am living now becomes a kitchen. Also, I will use the rest of the money to build a poultry house which is my long term plan.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am a casual labourer within the village. I wake up every to do the casual jobs. The work is too labour and intense and this makes the part of the day I am performing this tasks to be dull and unhappy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have ever faced is denial by my own biological parents. They kicked me out of our family and they told me to start living by myself. I felt denied at the time of my need. I had to go the Kericho to be hired as casual labourer in the year 2019. That time I used to starve for some days which was the biggest blow in my entire life.
