How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different in that I now have my own piece of land and I have as well been able to build a new house in it. I have always had this dream of having my own piece of land and leading an independent life free from interference by anyone. All this while, I have not been able to raise enough money to be able to accomplish this. When GiveDirectly came into our village, I was so happy when they promised to give us support. I have since been able to buy a piece of land and constructed a new house and I cannot stop being grateful about this.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did so well in giving unconditional cash transfers and were not biased in selecting elligible households. We have had past experiences with other NGOs who offered to give us help but they were never as straight in their intentions to support us as GiveDirectly was. It was interesting to have all the households within my village getting the transfers as promised and the development projects that were initiated by each household are clearly evident.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used all of my second transfer to build a new house in a piece of land that I managed to buy when I got my first transfer.I was living with my parents before I received these transfers and I very well knew that I would not get any bigger share from my parents from their piece of land if any. I therefore found this to be a once in a lifetime opportunity to have my own piece of ;land and build a new house as I strive to raise my own children in the best way I can. I feel so happy that I have been able to accomplish these plans.
