How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before the transfers, I did not have a reliable source of income. I used to rely on a small income from casual work which was mostly once a week. The other days of the week, I would really struggle to meet my family. I tried my very best to save to start a business but I could not manage because I used to take the savings to meet my needs. When I started receiving these transfers, I first thought of the struggles I have gone through and started to save the money. I used the savings to start a business and I am glad the business is now doing well. As a result of the business, I get an income on a daily basis which has made financially stable. I no longer seek for help and beg as before the transfers.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
I plan to save most of my transfers to use in boosting my business. I believe when I invest more in the business by adding more stock, the business will grow, it will be stable and earn me more income from improved profits. This will help me meet my family needs well and in time.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer on paying my house rent. I had used all my savings during the festive season and was counting on the transfers to pay the rent. I also used part of the transfer to buy food for my family. The stock we had was running low so I decided to boost it early enough. The rest I have saved to help me in future when I have financial needs that may arise in the family.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Having a monthly transfer has made my overall life much easier and bearable as I am now able to provide for my family even when I do not have an income of my own. The biggest difference the transfers have brought in my life so far is the tremendous growth it has brought in my clothing business. The transfers have always enabled me to buy more stock which have so far given me more profits than I have ever had before. These profits make it easier for me to take care of my family's needs with much ease hence keeping me away from the frustrations of life that I used to go through.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
I sell second-hand clothes as my main source of income. At the moment, I am operating the business on small scale meaning that I pick the stock from other sellers who sell at retail prices which should not be the case for anyone who is planning to resell the clothes. This reduces my profits as compared to anyone who buys a whole stock at wholesale price. My biggest goal at the moment is to make enough savings which can enable me to buy a whole bale which will be less costly and have more variety meaning more profits. Once I am able to do that, I will then think of other ways of taking my business to greater heights.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used most of the money that was recently sent to me to pay my house rent for the month to avoid having any issues with my landlord who usually does not like it when one fails to pay his rent on time. I then gave out the rest of the money to my nephew who is an orphan so that he could buy some of his personal needs being that he is a teenager who may attempt to get involved in other dangerous means of raising money for his needs.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before I started receiving the transfer, I used to really worry on how I would pay my rent. I currently run a shoe selling business but the proceeds from the business are barely enough to cater for both the basic needs and for rent payment. The biggest difference, therefore, is that I am glad and less worried. I am able to comfortably pay my house rent on time unlike before. I have also stocked up my business using the transfers from Give Directly which has in turn, improved my income.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
I currently run a shoe selling-business in my locality. My plan is to improve my business by buying more stock and to expand and diversify into different products such as second-hand clothes.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent Ksh. 2500 of the most recent transfer to pay my house rent. I am happy that ever since I began receiving this transfer, I have been able to pay my rent on time and now in good books with my landlord. I also did some household shopping and paid some utilities with some of the transfer. I gave the rest to my brother- KES 500 for his daily travelling expenses.

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My goal now that I have started receiving the money is to start poultry keeping project. I settled on this because its starting cost is affordable and it can be operated within my current place of residence and I will not have to hire someone to run it. This will act as my alternative source of income and I will be using part of my income to cater for my needs. With a stable source of income, I will be able to support my late brother's son who has currently dropped out of school due to lack of school fees.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly is that I no longer struggle a lot in paying my house rent because I always use my transfers to settle this. Due to this, my landlord has never come to close my house like how he frequently used to do because I now pay on time. I must admit that I am really happy because of this since my neighbors who knew that any month would not pass without being locked by the landlord are now wondering about the sudden change in my life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my most recent transfer to pay my house rent since I received this money at a time when I had not paid my rent. My landlord was threatening to come and close my house due to this and that is why I settled on this so as to avoid being a laughing stock in my neighborhood. I spent the remaining amount to buy stock of food that would last me for some time so that I would be able to save some money from my business that I would have otherwise used in buying food.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
It was early in the morning as I was preparing to go for work when I received my money. At that moment, my heart was filled with happiness and peace overwhelmed me. this is because I knew that it was a new dawn in my life where I will live in peace with my landlord as he would not have to come to my place every month to collect his rent.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Reason why I prioritize my plans the way I did is because, I used borrow money from friends, where I ended up having huge debts, from transfers I will add stock which is shoes, that will increase my profit, this will enable me to pay debts and save, second priority will be livestock which will be poultry keeping, in this business it usually grows first in terms of number chicken increase and other demand such as eggs, third priority will be pay school fees for my child, because I used to have had time to convince teacher to give me sometime to pay fee because I hate seeing my child being send at home.
Describe your biggest worry.
My top concern is death, because my parent dies while I was still young, I go through a lot in life that I will not like to see my children to go through the same.
What are your greatest ambitions?
Ever since I used to like playing football because I have seen many people achieve their life due to football I can give an example of Christian Ronaldo he is earning lots of money do to football hence with the talent that I have, I know I will be also one of the best famous player.
Describe your usual day. How do you spend your time?
during my free time I usually woke up at 8:00am , I pray, then clean poultry place that will take twenty minutes, then go to my group place where I help them with some of the activities like doing collecting garbage etc then at 10:00am I will go to play football till 2:00pm the take my lunch go back home to watch movie.
