How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
Before GiveDirectly came, my spouse was responsible for the provisions of most of our household and it could reach a time when she couldn't afford them. This forced us to borrow a lot because we had pressing needs that needed urgent attention. As a result, I lost respect because I was fond of asking. I feel the transfers I receive from GiveDirectly has brought a great difference because I am able to feed my family without asking for money from anyone. In addition, this has created a good relationship between me and my spouse because we no longer quarrel on what to purchase since I can as well make decisions nowadays on how to spend my money.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
Aside from owning rental houses, I do rear poultry as an additional source of income. Currently, the new goal is to focus more on expanding my poultry project by saving part of the transfers for the next four months. Therefore I expect to shall have bought thirty chicken using these savings.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
Previously, I majorly relied on payments that I got from my rental houses. However, some of my tenants paid after two months which was really inconveniencing in terms of budgeting for my family's needs on a monthly basis. Therefore, the biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfers is that I have learned the virtue of being financially discipline since I am able to meet my family's needs without much struggle or borrow from my neighbors due to having no money before the end of the month. I am glad because I have been able to supplement the income I get from my rental house with the transfers to budget comfortably for my monthly basic needs.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
I expect in the next six months to have achieved my goal of expanding my poultry project and it shall be running smoothly. I am hopeful that by then the poultry would have matured and ready for sale to earn me a good income which I intend to use to pay for my children's school fees next year.
