How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The newest goal that I intend to do is for me to be able to expand my business and stock. With the expansion, I am optimistic that I will be able to attract more income. I am so happy for the support that transformed our lives.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has brought so many changes to our society, I had not imagined that at this time in life I would own a decent house. Glad that I was able to realise this dream with support from GiveDirectly. I have not heard of a single complaint from anyone concerning GiveDirectly, they are transparent and true to their words.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a local businesswoman specialising in selling cooking pots and maize. I am blessed with six children. When I received my transfer, I saw it has a golden opportunity for me to purchase a dairy cow to reduce the cost of buying milk daily. Thus upon receiving my transfer, I used KES 23,000 in acquiring the cow. This has been my dream, but I was unable to execute it due to financial constraints. I then used KES 10,000 in completing my house that was left halfway. Lastly, I used the remaining amount on stocking up on my business. GiveDirectly support has lifted our lives amazingly thus we are grateful.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 1:00 am when I had already retired to bed. I hear my phone ring and on checking it I confirmed that indeed I had received money from GiveDirectly. I was over the moon but I composed myself. I informed my husband early in the morning who helped me in coming up with a plan on how to spend the money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference nce is that I am now financially independent and in a position to pay school fees from the proceeds from dairy
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have six children who are still at the rapid growth s tea he and protein is one of the main meals that they require. It is for this reason that I bought a dairy cow worth KES 25000. I later used the remaining amount to buy food and other needs for the family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a Potter with 5 children .Raising them is a challenge because of inadequate finances to meet their food requirements , clothing and better shelter.Receiving this transfers means an end to the financial crisis in my household.I will be able to establish a dairy farm through the purchase of one dairy cow worth KES 40000 .This cow will be a continuous source of income to my family because I will be selling an average of 6 litres a day and this will earn me KES 3000 a month. Moreover, I will be able to sell the calves after they have multiplied and this will also generate income to me.My household will also be food secure because the constant supply of milk means availability of important nutrient to the health of my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Family wellbeing and the academic performance of my children in grade 3 and 6 have brought happiness in my life in the last six months. My two children have shown a tremendous improvement in their studies this year this is attributed to the coming in of a new teacher in their school. Both my children have met expectations as compared to last year when they were below expectations. As a mother my wish has been to see my children excel in life , therefore with this improvement am impressed knowing that their future nos bright.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Inadequate finances are the biggest challenges we are currently facing. I am a mother of 4 sons and a daughter. April this year my elder son was initiated and this cost me KES 10000 for the doctor and another KES 10000 for the home welcoming ceremony. The little savings I had earned from pottery were all spent on this occasion and were not enough.I had to take a loan from microfinance and up to this point am struggling to pay it off.My family has had to go through thick and thin in feeding and clothing because we now depend on one meal a day and no purchase of clothing's in order to pay the debt.
