How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
When I received the first transfer I bought a dairy cow with it, I used my second transfer in starting a goat rearing project, it is evident that there is a great impact on my life than before, I used to buy milk but now I own a dairy cow, I have eight goats also, I am grateful for the support that lifted my living standard from nothing to a proud mother with a project that is actively running.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does its work well without any form of discrimination or biases, everything was done professionally and we were grateful for that. So far I have not seen any gap in their line of service.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a farmer and my husband is a motorcycle rider offering taxi services in the village, I wanted a project that is sustainable and easy to manage, therefore I thought of starting a goat rearing business which I used KES 32,000 in buying 8 goats, I am hopeful that with time I will be able to make a living out of it, I then used KES 3000 in preparation for the next planting season, lastly I used the remaining part of the transfer in buying foodstuffs. I am grateful for the support that made me realise my dreams.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so happy to receive the money I was promised by GiveDirectly. The excitement heightened on the assurance that the plans I had on obtaining a cow and sorting other household needs were soon getting accomplished. I had a budget to first ensure a cow or at least a heifer comes in, and the other household goods could be sorted by the remaining amount.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the heifer I bought using my first transfer. This came with great hope as I had been spending a lot on purchasing milk from the neighborhood. Seeing the new breed feeding and growing in my field every day is a complete change in my household, and even though I am still spending on milk, I am looking forward to producing from my own soon.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After buying milk from my immediate neighbor who had been producing a lot from her livestock, I decided to invest in at least a good breed to minimize the huge expenses on milk. I used 30000KES on buying an in-calf heifer potential calving soon. This has brought back the hope of even selling surplus milk. Even though I am still buying milk at the moment, I am glad I have a future on the new breed. I used the remaining amount on obtaining household goods, among them are foodstuff, utensils, and also clothing for my children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My first born son joined intermediary school a year ago. Since I want quality education and a good foundation for my children, I am planning to enroll him into a private school in the coming years. Accordingly, receiving this money would enable me buy a dairy cow that will see these plans to fulfillment. My expectation is that getting a cow now would have multiplied in the next few years and will provide enough milk for commercial purposes, thus afford the quality education for my children. This is why receiving this money means a bright future for my children's education.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I gave birth to my last born a month ago. I spend the better part of the day nursing and breastfeeding my baby. The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon when a local radio show comes on. I love listening to music and this makes my day happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
About a year ago, my husband of 2 years lost his job in the Masai Mara where he worked as a tour guide. When covid came and international travels were banned, this greatly diminished his fortunes. On a typical day, he could earn about $15 including tips. Our ambition was to open up a shop keeping business for me at home so I could also contribute in putting food on the table, and saving up for our future. He has since been staying at home including running a motorcycle taxi with which he hardly makes $5 a day. My dreams of becoming a business woman were thwarted by the onset of the pandemic, owing to my husband's job loss. This is the biggest hardship I've faced.
