How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to open up a posho mill and also sell maize at the same time. From this business, I will be able to generate income that can cater to my household bills. I am saving 200 shillings from the manual jobs that I do every day.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly did well by enrolling is in this project. The officers who came for sensitization were so kind and patient with us. I appreciate that all the promises they have made were all delivered. I do not have any complaints.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
On receiving my second transfer, I prioritized purchasing a heifer for KES 30,000. For the longest time possible I had been buying milk at a costly price that was not adequate for my four family members. The heifer will calf in two months and we are going to have adequate milk for consumption. I also spent KES 4,000 on tilling my land and also planted maize. I am hopeful that when we harvest the maize we will have plenty of food unlike before. The remaining raining part of the money, I used in buying clothes for my household members.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 09:50 in the morning when my transfer came, I had gone to the shop to pick some items, on returning I passed through my mother- inlaw's place where she told me that she had received money from GiveDirectly, I had left my phone at home, therefore, I quickly rushed home to confirm if I had the same message in my phone, I was overjoyed on realizing that I too had received the transfer, it was the happiest day in our lives and I am grateful for the support
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I was living in a grass thatched house before, it was very small and old, but I had to endure living in that status due to our financial status, I am a casual labourer, meaning that I don't have a reliable source of income because a time there is no available work for me to engage in, the transfer brought a change in my life because I was able to construct a new decent house for my family, I am happy that I have accomplished my dream of owning a house, it is like a dream come true, GiveDirectly has positively impacted the lives of many people in our village and we are thankful for it.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a casual labourer in the village, I depend on any available work to earn a living, I have 2 children, My hopes of building a good house were shattered due to my unstable income, but there was light at the end of the tunnel when GiveDirectly came, my hopes were revived, therefore, I prioritized building a decent house for my family worth KES 40,000. I then used the remaining part of the transfer in buying clothes and foodstuffs. I am relieved that the support has brought so much change and happiness in our lives,

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I can finally start a small business , selling maize within my location. I have always dreamed of owning a grains store because it has a lot of profits given that everyone buys maize for consumption. I did not have enough capital to start the business because the keys 200 I get from working as a casual labourer is only enough for food. I plan to spend about Kes 10,000 to establish it. As I run this, I will also buy livestock at about Kes 60,000, that will earn me an income from selling eggs, from the poultry, and milk from a dairy cow.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. I feel fresh and just relaxed after a good night rest. In fact ,I find myself singing my favourite choruses from church as I pray for a better day ahead. This way, I set myself for achieving more for my family to ensure that there is food on the table ,if I got enough casual jobs to do.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship is finding enough food for my family. I am a casual labourer , working on other people's farms, mainly weeding maize crops. This pays about Kes 200 on a good day and are rare to find. This income is not sufficient to buy milk, vegetables and maize flour, rendering us hungry many times in a month.
