Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy just like any other person when I was told that my share of the money had been sent to my account. I knew I needed the money the most due to my old age and the fact that I only depend on my children to get money to meet all the needs like food and medication.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is that I am now self reliant contrary to before when I had to rely on my children to provide me with everything. I feel happy that GiveDirectly has given me a break from being over dependent on my children.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
KES 30000 was used to buy a dairy cow that will help me feed well and stay healthy. Another KES 8000 was used to seek my medication. Old age has come with its fare share of challenges sickness being one of them and the money was helpful in making me more healthy and happy. I feel I have given my children a break and they could also be able to meet the needs of their families and make their own investments. I feel so happy and lucky to have been part of the beneficiaries.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am ill , indisposed and of old age. I have a heart problem which has paralyzed me for the last 20 years. It has left me unable to work or do anything for myself. I am on a wheel chair as you can see.I am being assisted to do almost everything. It is so painful as I have become a burden to my children. My plan is to use this help to seek further medical attention at Tenwek hospital. This will cost me up KES 70000. I will use the rest of the money to buy food.
What is the happiest part of your day?
We have not had any good news for sometime now. Thanks to Give Directly for remembering us with their transfers. We are so elated about receiving this transfers. We thank God for the rare luck that came our way.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I cannot engage in any meaningful economic activity because of my old age and my state of health. I am being provided for especially in terms of food. Other times my caregiver struggles a lot to put food on the table. With my state of health also I need special food which can be expensive. I feel so bad when I see my caregivers struggling that much to fend for me.
